Guy Joseph was an intrepid adventurer, marine scientist, ocean lover, and founding member of MantaWatch. His passion for exploration and thirst for knowledge drove him to pursue his dreams and ambitions around the world, from the UK to Indonesia.

On October 14, 2011, aged 25, Guy was killed in a tragic paragliding accident. The Guy Joseph MantaWatch Award is a memorial to Guy’s spirit of discovery and love for the ocean. The Award aims to support young Indonesian marine professionals to achieve their academic and professional ambitions.

MantaWatch and Guy’s Trust have teamed up to offer a four-week funded internship for Indonesian marine science students.

This competitive award offers young marine professionals an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and insight, while developing and demonstrating their skills within an international organization.

Supported through a grant from Guy’s Trust, in 2012 MantaWatch will award one internship to a deserving and academically gifted student in fields related to marine science.

Guy’s Trust is a UK charity that creates educational opportunities for disadvantaged young people in developing countries.

The launch of our internship program represents a critical step towards our goal of establishing a scholarship program for young marine scientists.
